Right off the shore, a little fish swam
Frantically searching for his best friend
The fish looked around— where did his friend go?!
And after some time, admitted he did not know
Missing so long, he now feared the worst
Their route to and fro had been quite rehearsed
And from it, his friend was not likely to stray
Or be lackadaisical, or cause a delay
It was but a second he’d been by his side
Out in the ocean with nowhere to hide
Swimming and playing all in delight
No troubles in sight, and a future so bright
Then overhead, a shadow cast loom
The little fish’s stomach filled quick with doom
Soaring above was a large pelican
And out of his bill, hung his best friend!
He was no longer alive, no, his friend was quite dead
Who now would be his best friend instead?
